Brake Rotors (Disc Brakes)
Brake rotors, as part of a disc brake system, are typically found on the front wheels of modern vehicles, although many vehicles now have them on all four wheels. When the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic pressure forces the brake calipers to squeeze the brake pads against the rotor, creating friction that slows down the vehicle.
The advantages of disc brakes include:
Better heat dissipation: Brake rotors are exposed to open air, which allows for faster cooling. This makes them less prone to overheating and brake fade, especially during heavy or prolonged braking.
More efficient in wet conditions: The design of disc brakes allows water to be easily expelled from the rotor surface, resulting in more efficient braking in wet conditions.
Easier maintenance and inspection: Disc brakes are easier to inspect and maintain since the brake pads and rotors are readily visible.
